- New players may start at any time, and start at the bottom of the rankings. The ladder is open to all, including non-employees.
- Challenges must be issued to a specific player over the pool@artesyncp.com mailing list. This way all players can see all challenges, and when they are made.
- The challenged player must respond within 3 work days or forfeit (count as a loss). If you will be away for an extended time, let the administrator (currently John Stewart) know and you will be removed from the ladder, and when you return you will start at the same ranking as when you left.
- It's up to the individual players to work out a time and place to play. Lunch at the Green Room is a good place for many, as the pool is free if you buy lunch there.
- No player may be forced to play more than 1 match every 2 weeks, although you certainly may do so (and are encouraged to play as much as possible). If you cannot meet this obligation, you must withdraw and when you re-enter you will start at the bottom.
- You may challenge only players on the level directly above you. If the challenger wins, the players switch spots. If the challengee wins, the standings remain the same. Win/loss ratio is updated in either case.
- Any game of pool agreed upon by the participants of a challenge may be used. The challenges must be at least as long as the following:
8-ball or 9-ball: Best of three
Straight Pool (14.1): Race to 25
If the participants cannot agree on the game to be played, the challenger may choose between 8-ball and 9-ball (the standard versions specified in the BCA rules). In the case where there is an automatic playoff between the top 2 players (see rule #8), and the players cannot agree on a game, the players will lag for choice between standard 8-ball and 9-ball.
- Challenges must be accepted in the order they were received. You cannot accept a challenge from a player if a different player has already issued you a challenge. We will use the timestamps on the email to determine this, so make sure you use the pool@artesyncp.com list to issue challenges.
Challenges will be scored in the order they are played. In the event that more than one challenge occurs at the same time (i.e. over lunch the same day), then they will be scored in the order the challenges were issued.
- At the conclusion of a challenge, the results need to be mailed to the mailing list (pool@artesyncp.com). This is the victor's responsibility. Current ranking and results will be posted on the web, available for all, at http://pool.johnstewart.com
- Unless contradicted by a rule above, all games will be governed by the current Billiards Congress of America rules for 8-ball, 9-ball, and 14.1 Continuous (straight pool): http://www.bca-pool.com/play/rules/wsr-intro.shtml
